The FRCS Pass is a course I wish I had access to when I was sitting my own exam.

I passed Section 2 on second attempt and I wish I had had a mentor or coach to ensure I avoided the easy mistakes, knew what the exam actually involved and had the opportunity to practice with and learn from someone who was willing me to succeed and had covered the same road I was on, and was only a few steps ahead.

I wrote all the content for this course after my own exam initially for a book to be published by OUP. The content is based on and draws on mainstream UK maxillofacial resources and covers the entirety of the syllabus.

Passing the FRCS doesn’t just mark a credential—it determines the trajectory of your surgical career. It is the Everest summit of exams. The path is littered with wasted weeks, possible resit delays, and plenty of ‘unknown unknowns’. This course was built deliberately to bridge the gap between where you are now and where you need to be: prepared, clear and above all confident.

What you’ll get is not some cookie cutter content but carefully crafted questions and model answers together with a coaching programme to create a high-leverage, optimised system: frameworks that steepen and shorten your learning curve, coaching that catches you before mistakes become habits, and practice exams so that nothing in the real thing on the day feels foreign or new.

When you enrol, you claim a seat at the table—live coaching with an experienced trainer who is on your side, tailored constructive feedback to hone your skills, a community of peers pushing alongside you, and peace of mind via a guarantee that means I will continue to work with you until you pass.

Testimonials

James FRCS (MaxFac)

Mo FRCS (MaxFac)

‘When you start higher surgical training in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, the FRCS seems a long way away in the distant future.

Having chosen a career that entails dual qualification, and as such a significant time in training, you will inevitably be exposed to the exam vicariously through the success and failures of your colleagues without truly appreciating what the FRCS entails.

As a result starting your FRCS revision can be like standing at the foothills of Everest.

Working with Mr Ketabchi provided the insight & perspective required to successfully navigate the potential minefield associated with preparing for the FRCS.

His guidance allowed time to be spent focussing on the key aspects of the syllabus that are invariably assessed during the course of the exam.

Providing you with the time & space to practice, he is able to provide tailored feedback to help optimise your performance and as such give you the best chance of success!’

“A much more bespoke and personalised focus”

🙋🏻‍♂️ Who this is for

✅ Candidates who are serious about passing the exam first time.

✅ Candidates who struggle with structuring and then vocalising and verbalising what they know.

✅ Trainees who want structure, coaching, and accountability rather than scattered notes and guesswork.

✅ Candidates who are willing to put in the work and apply proven frameworks to master exam technique.

✅ Those who see the course as an investment in their future career as a consultant, not an expense.

If that sounds like you, this programme was built with you in mind.

🙅🏻‍♂️ Who this is NOT for

⛔️ Candidates looking for a magic shortcut or secret formula without effort or discipline.

⛔️ Trainees who prefer to study in isolation and have no need for feedback.

⛔️ Trainees who are still more than a year away from the FRCS and not yet engaging with exam-level thinking.

FAQs:

  • My promise to you when you enrol is that I will help and coach you to pass your exam. Therefore if you don’t pass either Section 1 or Section 2 I will continue to work with you until you do.

That is what ‘helping you pass - guaranteed’ means.

  • You only enrol and pay once. That means I will continue to work with you - until you pass.

The chances of you not passing first time are much less with a mentorship programme but if you stumble we will continue to work together until you pass.

  • There is a reason even Roger Federer had a coach despite being the best at his craft!

Like most activities doing it with an ‘accountability partner’ will make the process easier and better structured.

A coach can point out blind spots, can encourage when you feel demotivated and keep you accountable and on track.

  • This is mostly because when I wrote the content for a book the exam format did contain EMIs. They have now inexplicably been replaced by another SBA paper.

However the EMIs are a rich source of both factual knowledge and also the application of that knowledge to the practice of a day one consultant.

So even though I thought about converting them to SBAs I felt they merited inclusion as they are because they provide the factual knowledge that SBAs test and in addition they provide another angle which is useful as the application of knowledge is also tested in the exam.

  • It is of course primarily aimed at maxillofacial trainees, but some plastics or ENT trainees might also find the virtual coaching calls focusing on the face and the head and neck quite useful too.

  • Depending on the tier that you are on you will get 5 or 10 virtual coaching calls with me directly.

To be able to organise the calls at a mutually convenient time you will also have my WhatsApp number and all the calls will be on either Zoom, Google Meet or Teams.

  • Yes, you can. And you would only need to pay the difference.

However as you will need to pass both Sections eventually, it might be a good idea to enrol on a higher tier depending on your levels of confidence.

  • Initially, by necessity as this is a new course, the hangout will be relatively quiet. I will be hanging out there as well as some colleagues who have passed their exams recently. With time that will increase.

With time the hangout will contain some additional resources like templates, videos, previous candidates’ experience videos etc

  • For the Best (Gold) tier, you could pay in 2 instalments, perhaps one before and one after Section 1.

We can discuss that on the discovery call.

  • Depending on how much prep you have done yourself, most people recommend dedicating 6 months to the exam process.

You could start whenever you feel ready and we can work together to make sure you are at your peak at just the right time for the exam.

  • Depending on how soon after starting you come to this conclusion then you will get a full refund - no questions asked.

However I am confident that you will find the course and coaching so helpful that not only you would benefit from it youself, you will end up as an evangelist for it and recommend it to your peers and colleagues.

  • No, it should all be fairly straightforward. The content will be available via a link sent to your email so you can revise at your own convenience on any screen.

For the coaching calls with me they will all be virtual on Zoom, Google Meet or Teams whatever is most convenient.

  • The entirety of the content was generated years ago by myself for a book and is in no way a copy or AI generated.

I have worked hard to make sure there is a broad spread across the curriculum with all the areas of the syllabus covered and also that they are up to date with the latest developments. The content has been fact checked by former trainees soon after passing their own exam.

The ultimate responsibility and copyright for the content lies with me.
